One former UNC wing will face a familiar foe.

As of last night, the NCAA tournament brackets have been set. North Carolina got their draw, earning a one-seed. One former UNC wing is set to go up against the NC State Wolfpack in the first round and has a winning record against them.

Round One Familiarity

Current Texas Tech and former Tar Heel wing Kerwin Walton will face a team he is familiar with. He played against NC State four times at UNC, winning three of those. The Red Raiders are currently favored in the #6 vs. #11 seed matchup.

Season Stats

This year at Texas Tech, Walton is averaging 8.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He has seen his minutes go up and shoots 47% from three. The Red Raiders are 23-10 in a loaded Big-12 conference.

With UNC

Walton was a member of the Tar Heels #2-ranked 2020 class that featured RJ Davis, Caleb Love, Day’Ron Sharpe, Walker Kessler, and Puff Johnson. He spent two seasons at North Carolina and was part of the team’s magical run to the national championship. In his time in Chapel Hill, he averaged 5.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in around 17 minutes per game. During his freshman season, he was one of the only reliable shooters on the team.

Will Walton and Texas Tech move on to the second round?
