A few players have hit the transfer portal since spring practice started.

North Carolina quarterback Tad Hudson has entered the transfer portal. He becomes the fourth player this month to leave Chapel Hill, following Lejond Cavazos, D.J. Geth, and Ayden Duncanson. With spring practice beginning and a window to leave school in search of playing time, athletes across the country are jumping into the portal.

What to Know

Hudson is a former 4-star who did not record a stat in his freshman season. He sat behind Drake Maye and Conner Harrell. Out of high school, Hudson was thought to be next in line behind those two. However, Maye departed UNC for the NFL draft, and the Tar Heels brought in Texas A&M quarterback Max Johnson to compete with Harrell. That pushed Hudson further down the depth chart and would likely result in multiple more seasons of watching from the sidelines. Now, he will be able to pursue another opportunity and earn minutes.

The Next Step

Hudson had plenty of teams reach out in high school. Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Tennessee, Wake Forest, and many more offered him. Being that he hasn’t played, Hudson should still have four years of eligibility remaining. That in itself will likely garner interest for a 4-star prospect.

Best of luck to Hudson in his future career!
