Downs is impressing in his first year in Indianapolis.

Former North Carolina standout wide receiver Josh Downs just set a rookie record for the Indianapolis Colts. It is just his rookie season, and he already looks like a future star. If he keeps playing like this, Downs falling to the third round will continue to look like a mistake.

New Colts Record

The Colts season came to an end Saturday night, but not before Downs set the franchise record for most catches by a rookie. He snagged his 66th reception, surpassing Bill Brooks (65) and Marvin Harrison (64). That is elite company. Downs finished the game with three catches for 48 yards. Just like at UNC, Downs speed and agility allow him to create a lot of separation.

Season Ends

Indianapolis won’t make the playoffs, but they have pieces that could give them a bright future. Downs is a part of that, as he ended the year with 68 catches for 771 yards and two touchdowns. His best game came against the Browns, where he had five catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. Downs is a featured receiver alongside Michael Pittman Jr. That duo looks solid, and if first round pick and quarterback of the future Anthony Richardson can stay healthy, the Colts may have something.

Congrats to Josh for this accomplishment!
