Another get for UNC at a position of need.

North Carolina had landed offensive lineman Jakiah Leftwich from the transfer portal. The big tackle had played at Georgia Tech for the past few seasons and is a redshirt sophomore. Leftwich is a graduate transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining. UNC has been looking to add to this position.

Connections and Experience

Leftwich played in seven games this past season. He is connected to the Tar Heels as well. Current UNC defensive coordinator Geoff Collins was the head coach of Georgia Tech when Leftwich committed to play there. Now, the two are reunited, even if Collins won’t directly be coaching him.

Recruiting Profile

Out of high school, Leftwich was listed by 247Sports as a 3-star and the #784 player in the nation. He had offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and many more. On Georgia Tech’s website, they list Leftwich at 6’6 and 311 pounds.

Portal Class

Leftwich is the seventh member of North Carolina’s portal class. He joins quarterback Max Johnson, running back Darwin Barlow, tight end Jake Johnson, offensive linemen Austin Blaske and Howard Sampson, and safety Jakeen Harris. There will likely be more to join, as UNC still has multiple areas to improve on, especially with all of the departures.
