With time winding down to decide on reclassification, Jarin Stevenson has a decision to make.

5 Star recruit Jarin Stevenson is nearing a decision on whether to remain in the 2024 class or move up and play college ball this coming year. The Seaforth High School Power Forward is a prized recruit and the top player in North Carolina, according to the 247Sports recruiting composite.

Timeline

In a recent interview with 247Sports, Stevenson said he would like to have a decision made by the end of his school year. That day is June 9th, which means a decision is nearing. If he chooses to reclassify, a commitment could soon follow. Additionally, many schools want their players to be ready for the second Summer session of classes. This helps players familiarize the system and playbook before the season starts.

Recruiting Battle

Along with North Carolina, Stevenson is considering a handful of schools. He has taken recent visits to Alabama, Georgetown, Missouri and Virginia. Although the recruitment has become more clouded, North Carolina should remain the favorites as he has ties to the school.

The case for the Tar Heels

As discussed in a previous article, Jarin Stevenson is well connected to North Carolina. His mother played basketball for the Heels in the 90s. For much of the past two years, it seemed as though other schools did not want to get involved with the star due to him essentially being considered a lock to UNC. Many believe he could reclassify, see spot minutes for the Heels and put weight on before becoming a starter for the 2024-2025 season.

The case for the field

Is being considered a lock to North Carolina for so long a detriment? That could be the case. Stevenson may very well opt to play elsewhere. Showing top schools around the country that they could have recruited him and had a real shot. It would be a move that would shock many, but it is no doubt a possibility. As he continues to take visits to other schools, Hubert Davis must keep pushing to show him that staying home is the right choice.

Update as of May 24th

According to InsideCarolina, Jarin Stevenson will officially visit North Carolina beginning May 30th! This is huge for the Tar Heels chances. As we previously mentioned, Stevenson hopes to make a decision about reclassifying by June 9th. It seems as though this recruitment is nearing its end.
