Who can we expect to see minutes at Point Guard for the Tar Heels next year?

With the upcoming season 6 months away, we look at who will be playing the lead guard role for the Heels in the 2023-2024 season.

Starter

  • R.J. Davis– Senior guard R.J. Davis will once again be the Tar Heels starter. Averaging 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season, Davis has been a steady presence for North Carolina. He has improved every season and outside of a stretch where he was dealing with a dislocated finger, Davis was the Tar Heels best shooter all year. Heading into his senior year, Davis will likely be on many pre-season award lists. If trends continue, we can expect R.J. Davis to improve yet again and be one of the top Point Guards in all of college basketball.

Off the Bench

  • Seth Trimble– In his rookie campaign, Trimble averaged just under 10 minutes per game. While playing, there were flashes of what the guard can be. Additionally, his athleticism popped. Coaches and fans alike saw that he has a high-ceiling on the defensive side of the ball. His mix of athleticism and defense will see him get minutes as Trimble is clearly capable of being a lock-down defender. Improvement will have to come on offense for him to eventually earn steady minutes. His jump shot will be the Point Guards biggest question mark heading into the season.

Reserve

  • Creighton Lebo– The son of former North Carolina Point Guard and current assistant coach Jeff Lebo, Creighton is a member of “The Biscuit Boys.” Often seeing time at the end of games that are decided, Creighton has shown that he has the ability to be a good player.

The Unknown

  • Elliot Cadeau- Finally, Cadeau is a North Carolinas lone Point Guard commit for the 2024 class. For months it has been rumored that he would reclassify and play this coming year. Cadeau is an elite playmaker that can score at every level and is best known for his passing ability. If he were to come in next season, he would likely have the chance to start alongside R.J. Davis. Although it would be a small backcourt, Hubert Davis has said he likes having two ball handlers playing at the same time.

Time will tell how the roster shapes out.
