UNC leaves Charlottesville a winner for the first time in 12 years!

North Carolina picked up a big win on Saturday afternoon when it beat Virginia, the third-place team in the ACC. Not only has Charlottesville been nearly impossible to win at in recent years, but it added separation that puts UNC in first place in the ACC.

Breaking the Streak

Games against UVA are never pretty. That was the case today as well, with the teams combining for just 98 points. Cormac Ryan nearly outscored the Cavaliers in the first half, scoring 15 points to UVA’s 16. Reminiscent of Roy Williams teams, the Tar Heels were great on the offensive glass. UNC pulled down multiple offensive boards that created extended possessions and points. Winning at Virginia for the first time in 12 years, with some of the teams that the Tar Heels have had recently, is impressive.

Winning Stats

  • 15/19 from the free throw line.
  • 43 rebounds (9 offensive).
  • 11 assists on 16 made shots.
  • 10 blocks.

Best Performances

Cormac Ryan- 18 points (15 in the first half).

Armando Bacot– 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Elliot Cadeau– Six assists and four points.

RJ Davis– 12 points (9-10 from the free throw line) and four rebounds.

For now, North Carolina is in first place in the ACC. With just four regular-season games remaining and another meeting with second place Duke, winning out would be huge.

Next Up: vs. Miami in Chapel Hill on Monday night.
