Lunardi has the Tar Heels on the 2-line.

ESPN’s Bracketologist Joe Lunardi is not only shocked that North Carolina is on the 2-seed line but also believes the 1-seed teams are already set. He does not expect movement from that top group to be substantial enough to move any of them down.

Surprised With UNC

Talking about North Carolina, Lunardi said, “It’s a bit of a surprise that the Tar Heels are in that group of number 2-seeds.” He then went on to talk about the Tar Heels starting as #1 overall last season before not making the tournament at all. Saying it is a  “surprise” is an odd comment considering the makeup of this team is completely different than it was last year. Only two starters from last years squad remained on the team this season.

Another comment that UNC fans may not like? Lunardi says, “A solid season for Hubert Davis and his club. They’re tied at the top of the ACC, shockingly, with Duke.” Calling it shocking that North Carolina is tied with Duke at the top of the conference may rub some the wrong way. In the preseason ACC poll, UNC was picked to finish third. It isn’t like they were a middle-of-the-pack team.

Set On the Top Group?

Lunardi believes that the 1-seed group is already solidified. In it, he has Purdue, UConn, Houston, and Arizona. Those first three teams only have three losses each, while Arizona, which plays #21 Washington State tonight, has an easy final stretch. “I don’t think we’re going to see a lot of change, if any, among these teams between now and selection Sunday. Maybe their order, but not the composition of the 1-seeds,” said Lunardi.

What do you make of Lunardi’s comments?
