UNC continued its hot start in the ACC.

North Carolina and Wake Forest played in a game that many believed would be close. In the first half, it was, with the Demon Deacons giving UNC everything it could handle. That changed in the second half, where the Tar Heels smothered Wake and used a scoring burst to get the win.

First Half

A slow start had both teams playing tight. That was until North Carolina got out to a 22-14 lead. Wake Forest answered with a couple of stop and scores. Hunter Sallis made plays all night, ultimately leading Wake in scoring. The two teams continued to go back-and-forth, with Damari Monsanto answering two late UNC buckets with threes of his own. At half, the Demon Deacons were 34-33.

Second Half

The game changed out of the half. RJ Davis, who was already having a solid game, caught fire and scored his career high. He was able to do whatever he wanted, knocking down threes, getting to the line, and exploiting the drop coverage that Wake was playing for floaters and layups. Elliot Cadeau had defenders scrambling. No one could stay in front of him, and he scored 14 points and added three assists. Meanwhile, Cormac Ryan dropped in 11 points, and Harrison Ingram got another double-double, scoring 14 and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Final: Wake Forest-64 | UNC-85

Story of the Game

Guard Play: Davis setting his career-high helped, of course, and he was efficient as well. Cadeau got to the rim with ease, making layups throughout the game. Those two scored 50 of the Tar Heels 85 points.

Next up: at Florida State on Saturday.
