Davis continued his All-American campaign with a blazing performance.

As North Carolina dominated Wake Forest in the second half, it was senior guard RJ Davis knocking down shot after shot to push the lead. Davis, who was not listed on a preseason All-ACC team, has been the best player in the conference and proved it again last night. His outburst in scoring put him in elite company.

Nearly Breaking the Smith Center Record

Davis put up a career-high 36 points last night and did it efficiently, making 60.9% of his shots (14/23). That mark ties him for fourth in single-game scoring by a Tar Heel in the Dean E. Smith Center. There were six instances of 36 or more points on North Carolina’s home floor, done by three players. Now, Davis is one of those.

Who Else?

#1– Tyler Hansbrough scored 40 against Georgia Tech on February 15th, 2006.

#2– Tyler Hansbrough again, against Clemson in a double-overtime win on February 10th, 2008.

#3- Joseph Forte put 38 on Tulsa on November 11th, 2000.

#4 (Tie)- Joseph Forte scores 36 against Florida State on February 22nd, 2001.

#4 (Tie)- Antawn Jamison puts up 36 against Maryland on February 14th, 1998.

#4 (Tie)- Antawn Jamison scores 36 vs. Pittsburgh on November 29th, 1996.

#4 (Tie)- RJ Davis sets a career-high against Wake Forest with 36 points on January 22nd, 2024.

Davis is having an incredible year. He’s averaging 21 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. Even better? The best games are coming against the toughest competition. Davis is surely the front-runner for ACC Player of the Year at the moment.
