UNC is moving back up in the rankings.

After two weeks of falling in the polls, North Carolina is moving back up this week. It wasn’t a huge jump, as UNC only played one game, but they are headed in the right direction, coming in at #9. This week, they play both Miami and NC State in Chapel Hill.

One Game, One Win

North Carolina went to Virginia on Saturday for its only game of the week and won. It was the Tar Heels first win in Charlottesville since 2012. Cormac Ryan had a huge game, scoring 15 first half points. Armando Bacot recorded another double-double. UNC held UVA to just 16 points at the break. It was a slugfest, and North Carolina came out on top.

Upcoming Week

North Carolina has two big games this week. Miami and NC State are teams that need a big win. Both are on the outside of the tournament looking in.

MiamiThe Hurricanes are 15-13. It has not been the season they imagined after last year’s Final Four run. They were predicted to finish in the top three of the ACC. With a 6-11 conference record, they may be playing in the first round of the conference tournament.

NC StateHanging on to tournament hopes by a thread, NC State needs a Quad 1 win. At 17-10, they still face North Carolina, Duke, Florida State, and Pittsburgh. The only home game of those three is against Duke.

It is a big week for the Tar Heels, as a loss could doom the team’s chances of a 1-seed.
