UNC will start the season ranked!

When North Carolina opens its season in Charlotte, the Tar Heels will be ranked 21st. College Gameday will be in attendance for the big matchup with South Carolina.

Heels have something to Prove

North Carolina will have a lot to prove in the opener. Has the pass rush improved? Will the defense be ready for any team? How will North Carolina replace Josh Downs? All of these questions and more will be answered on September 2nd. Playing an SEC team is no easy task. North Carolina has opened with an SEC school multiple times. In 2019, the Tar Heels took down South Carolina in Sam Howell’s first start. They played Georgia years ago, when the Bulldogs were forming into the powerhouse they are now. UNC also faced LSU under Butch Davis, a game North Carolina likely would’ve won if not for suspensions. This is the game that will let the team and fans know how the year may shape up.

South Carolina?

South Carolina received the second-most votes of any team not ranked. Basically, the Gamecocks would be 27th if the poll went that far back. So, #21 vs. #27 is set and will have all of the media’s attention. South Carolina lost quite a few pieces in the offseason, and there are rumors swirling that their tight end may not be ready for the opener.

A big game for both teams, who will be ready?
