It was a big week for UNC.

North Carolina jumped three spots in the last AP Poll of the regular season. The Tar Heels got a blowout win over a hot Notre Dame squad before going into Cameron Indoor and sweeping Duke. It was a great finish to a fantastic regular season.

Final Ranking

North Carolina is up to #4 in the poll. Three of the teams ahead of them last week: Tennessee, Arizona, and Iowa State, all took losses. Pair that with two impressive wins and UNC got to jump up. Although it will not matter for seeding, the Tar Heels have put themselves in a good position to get a 1-seed in the NCAA tournament and are a lock for at least a 2-seed.

Impressive Week

Notre Dame– UNC beat Notre Dame from tip-off to the buzzer. It stayed close for about 10 minutes, but then got ugly. A balanced effort saw a complete beatdown of the Irish on senior night. Only one Notre Dame player scored in double-figures, and the Tar Heels offense was too much.

Duke– Funny enough, North Carolina also beat the Blue Devils from tip-off to buzzer. Duke never had a lead, and an early frenzy of scoring helped UNC weather any storm. Although it was a one point game in the second half, the Tar Heels responded and pushed a lead. It would be close at times, but there is no doubt who the better team was. Cormac Ryan scored 31 points in the win!

The ACC Tournament will begin on Tuesday, and UNC will play on Thursday.
