Big pickup for UNC!

North Carolina has landed Jake Johnson, the brother of recent portal addition Max Johnson. Jake was a highly sought-after tight end who is also transferring from Texas A&M. He is one of the highest-rated tight ends in the portal and a big addition to next year’s team.

2023 Productivity

With Texas A&M, Jake caught 24 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns. He is a huge tight end, standing at 6’6, 240-pounds. In North Carolina’s tight end friendly offense, Johnson should be a major player. His height alone would make him a top target across the country. With so many other schools wanting him, he is a big pickup.

Recruiting Profile

247Sports listed Johnson as a 4-star and the 95th-best player in his class. When being evaluated, Gabe Brooks of 247Sports said he believes he will be a second-or-third-round draft pick.

Tight End Room

With Kamari Morales already transferring, Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver still have decisions to make. Nesbit is talked about as a draft pick, as his height, speed, and versatility have proven to be elite. Copenhaver could transfer or come back for one more year. Both were very good for the Tar Heels this season. Adding Johnson to the room when there are questions about who will be on the team next year is huge for UNC.

Congrats, and welcome to Chapel Hill, Jake Johnson!
