UNC just got a much-needed commitment!

North Texas offensive lineman Howard Sampson just committed to North Carolina. After entering the portal, he was being recruited by multiple schools. From Texas, Sampson originally chose TCU. Today, he flipped that commitment to UNC. Sampson fills a position of need for the Tar Heels.

Recruiting Profile

Sampson is a massive offensive tackle. He stands at 6’8, 325-pounds. Ranked as a 3-star in both the portal and as a recruit, Sampson fills a huge gap. The Tar Heels lost Spencer Rolland to the draft and Diego Pounds to the transfer portal. Now, UNC gets a highly sought-after replacement. From Humble, Texas, he hit the portal in December, and although North Carolina recruited him, he chose TCU. On Twitter, Sampson posted, “Chapel Hill Lets Work,” with a graphic in a UNC jersey.

Portal Pick-Ups

Sampson is the fifth member of North Carolina’s transfer portal class. He joins quarterback Max Johnson, tight end Jake Johnson, offensive lineman Austin Blaske, and safety Jakeen Harris. The Tar Heels continue to make up for portal losses and should have a few more coming to Chapel Hill before the portal closes for good. For now, UNC has done a solid job of filling positions of need. Although more is needed, it is a good start.

Welcome to Chapel Hill, Howard!
