When the roster is officially set, who will the Tar Heels play at the “two guard” spot?

With the huge roster turnover since the transfer portal opened, North Carolina has welcomed multiple new shooting guards. The only player at this position returning next year is a walk-on.

Starter

  • Cormac Ryan– Although the Tar Heels will have multiple guys looking for minutes, the most likely starter as of now would be Notre Dame transfer Cormac Ryan. The talented guard has a high basketball IQ and will be one of the most experienced players on the roster. This past season, Ryan averaged 12.3 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists. One of the many things working in his favor is that he has played at the ACC level before.

Off the Bench

  • Paxson Wojcik– A transfer from Brown, Wojcik will be interesting to follow this upcoming season. The guard averaged 14.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists last year. Wojcik is also a good shooter, hitting 38 percent of his threes in 2022-2023. He had multiple 20 point games last year and scored 14 points when Brown visited North Carolina two years ago.
  • Simeon Wilcher– A four-star guard out of New Jersey, Wilcher is an athletic slasher who has shown an ability to shoot. His ability to defend has set him apart from other players in his class. Wilcher can also handle the ball well and play point guard if needed. He is a do it all player that is a proven winner at the high school level.

Reserve

  • Rob Landry– A former member of North Carolinas JV Team, Landry is a walk-on. Last season, he made the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

With Hubert Davis running a tight rotation the past two seasons, it will be interesting to see how he manages this group. There  are multiple talented players who will likely be given a chance to prove themselves early on.
