We take a look at who did not get enough recognition for UNC’s close win over App State.

As we know, North Carolina narrowly got a win over the Mountaineers last Saturday. Omarion Hampton had an incredible performance that won him the National Running Back of the Week award. He was the obvious choice for the best player of the game. But who were three others who didn’t get as much recognition, yet played a large role in UNC’s win?

The Unsung Heroes

  • J.J. Jones– Wide Receiver, JJ Jones quietly had a big game. He made some fantastic catches and caught a ball that took the top off of the defense. If you didn’t know, Jones is coming off a hip surgery, so it is nice to see him impact these games already. He finished the game with 5 catches for 91 yards.
  • Caleb Hood- Another Tar Heel that has dealt with injuries, Hood ran the ball 6 times for 26 yards and a touchdown. When he was on the field, he took full advantage and gave North Carolina some much-needed juice. Hopefully, Hood will see more carries in the near future.
  • Don Chapman- When the North Carolina defense needed a big play, Chapman delivered. With the game tied and App State driving, Chapman read the quarterback’s eyes, jumped out, and intercepted his pass. With the game feeling tight and the Mountaineers looking to capitalize, Chapman’s interception led to North Carolina taking the lead.

A lot of Tar Heels played well last Saturday. The game was close throughout, but that was one that App State will always get hyped for.
