College football is over until August.
The 2023-2024 college football season came to a conclusion with Michigan’s national championship win over Washington. North Carolina had an up-and-down season that ended in frustration. Next year will be much different for UNC, which will have many fresh faces. Let’s take a look at who is on the schedule.
Non-Conference
Week 1- at Minnesota: The Tar Heels travel to Minneapolis for a rematch of last season’s game. UNC got the better of the Gophers with a convincing win in round one.
Week 2- vs. Charlotte: The 49ers have a lot of momentum going. They have grabbed a few studs out of the portal and hired former UNC tight ends coach Tim Brewster to serve in a similar role.
Week 3- vs. NC Central: NC Central went 9-3 last season. They made the playoffs at the FCS level.
Week 4- vs. James Madison: The Dukes lost just two games this season, to App State and Air Force. They have been one of the best teams in the FCS, and were at the FBS level for the first time in 2022.
ACC Games
No date has been set for the ACC games, but UNC will play the following:
Home
Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets often give UNC fits. Their former coach, Geoff Collins, will be on North Carolina’s sideline.
NC State: Likely the last game of the season, the Wolfpack have won three straight over UNC. They lost a lot, but grabbed some great players in the portal.
Wake Forest: An in-state game that doesn’t always happen, North Carolina has beaten Wake Forest in each of the last three meetings.
Pittsburgh: Always a tough one, the Panthers will look to get revenge for this years loss.
Away
Duke: The last two times these teams played have been classics. UNC looks to win its sixth in a row against the Blue Devils.
Virginia: UVA has done a good job grabbing portal talent. They upset the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill last season, starting a downward spiral for UNC.
Boston College: A matchup against former UNC tight end Kamari Morales could be an interesting one. The Eagles have some young talent on their team.
Florida State: Most likely the toughest game on the schedule, North Carolina has to go to Tallahassee and face the reigning ACC champs.
It isn’t the hardest schedule, but will UNC be able to capitalize?
