It’s been a good couple of weeks for UNC Men’s Golf! After falling just short in the Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, the Tar Heels’ status in the world of golf continues to rise. Ryan Gerard, a two-time All-American golfer as a Tar Heel who graduated in 2022, is having himself a week on the pro tour.

Qualifying for America’s Championship

Let’s not bury the lede, Gerard, for the second straight year, will be playing in the U.S. Open. Battling a field of 70 at a U.S. Open Qualifier in Jupiter, Florida, and emerged victorious, earning his way into the United States’ most prestigious major. This year’s U.S. Open played at the Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, California, will feature the world’s best golfers competing for the 123rd champion. After missing the cut at the 2022 U.S. Open, Gerard will be looking to stamp his name permanently in the golf world.

Gerard Leaving His Mark On Tour

Perhaps looking to build on his momentum, Gerard flew to Toronto, Canada to participate in this week’s RBC Canadian Open. Competing with big names like Rory McIlroy, Sam Burns, and reigning U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, Gerard got off to a hot start shooting a 68, good for 4 under par, and tied for 10th place. While a win would earn him a permanent spot on the PGA tour, with the U.S. Open less than a week away, Gerard is really starting to heat up.

Gerard’s second round begins today at 2:05 PM ET.
