A tough break for Tez Walker and the Tar Heels

After doing things the right way and going through all of the NCAA’s rules, North Carolina wide receiver Tez Walker has been denied his eligibility request. The former Kent State star was one of the top transfers in the country. He had been a top talking point for the North Carolina coaches this offseason and would have likely been Drake Maye’s top target. Walker had 58 catches for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

Quotes

It is safe to say that the Tar Heels coaches and Walker himself are not happy with the decision of the NCAA.

Walker said, “I want this to be over. I want to stop feeling like this. I just want to play. I want my grandmother to come watch me. I want to be a student and an athlete and I hope those in charge give me that opportunity.”

Wide receivers coach Lonnie Galloway had this to say: “He leaned his head on my shoulder and started crying… you can imagine what that does to a 21-22 year-old kid.”

Finally, head coach Mack Brown had a quote of his own. He said “He’s only played football at one other school, and should be considered a one-time transfer.”

This is a really unfortunate situation for a kid who has already had a tough college journey. Mack Brown let it be known that they are appealing the decision and hope to have him for the opener against South Carolina.
