NBA Star Says He Wanted to Come to UNC, Never Got An Offer

He wouldn’t wait for UNC though…

We will say it again, make sure you check out Theo Pinson’s “Run Your Race” podcast. He brings on so many interesting guests and they talk about life and their careers. This week, he had on Donovan Mitchell, an NBA star who ended up at Louisville. He admits that he wanted to come to Carolina.

What Could’ve Been

Donovan Mitchell was a freshman during the 2016-2017 college basketball season. That was the year the Tar Heels won their last national championship. On the podcast, Mitchell and Pinson had this exchange:

Mitchell: “I wanted to go to UNC, I didn’t get an offer. They told me I had to wait for Coach Williams to see me. I was like, I’m not waiting. I would’ve went to UNC and sat, just to say I went to UNC. That’s how bad I wanted to go to Carolina.”

Pinson: “You would’ve played too, you would’ve been there, you would’ve won a ‘chip. You didn’t want a championship, loser.”

Mitchell: “I didn’t have an offer.”

The two laughed throughout the conversation and then talked about who was in Mitchell’s high school class.

That UNC team was loaded with talent, and having Mitchell joined them would’ve made the team even better. Now, Mitchell is with the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. He has had a great career and it all worked out well for both sides.
