The Heels struggled to stop the Huskies offense.
North Carolina and UConn faced off in a battle of two top-10 teams. The Huskies held the lead for much of the game but really extended their lead with six minutes remaining. They came out of halftime hot and never let up. Meanwhile, UNC couldn’t get anything to fall for a good stretch of the second half.
First Half
The game went back and forth, trading leads early until UCONN started getting easy buckets late in the half. Harrison Ingram and Armando Bacot were able to pace the Heels early. Bacot was called for an awful technical foul that got the Huskies lead to eight. A late stop and beautiful play drawn up by Hubert Davis got Ingram open for three. That cut it to five headed to the half.
Second Half
UConn could not miss. They came out of the half and hit their first four three-point attempts. North Carolina would fight its way back multiple times, but the Huskies were able to really catch its stride while the Tar Heels couldn’t buy a bucket. The lead got to 15 with four minutes to go. UNC kept applying pressure and was able to cut the lead, but it was too late. UConn shot over 50% for the game.
Final: UCONN-87 UNC-76
North Carolina falls to 7-2. Next up is Kentucky on December 16th.
