A former Tar Heel great posted about a current Tar Heel great!
Former North Carolina player and NBA coach George Karl recently posted on social media about UNC center Armando Bacot. In the post, Karl spoke about how great of a rebounder Bacot has become.
In his post, Karl said, “One of the key skills that transfers well from College to Pros is the ability to rebound the damn ball. Moses, Rodman and my guy @kennethfaried35 are high on the all time special list. My Carolina guy @armando isn’t just a great rebounder, he’s becoming special at it!”
This is high praise from someone who coached six NBA teams, as well as overseas and in the CBA, over a 38-year stretch. On top of that, he played in the NBA for six years and had a nice career at North Carolina from 1970 to 1973. Not only is this a nice gesture, but it may also get eyes on Bacot from different organizations.
Additionally, Karl is right. Bacot has been one of the best rebounders the program has ever seen. Last season, he broke the school record for all-time rebounds and double-doubles in a season. Using his fifth year for 2023-2024, Bacot may push that rebounding record so far ahead that it will never be touched again. The big man has been a fantastic player and ambassador for the school.
You have to love seeing Tar Heels supporting Tar Heels, especially when they played for the school 50 years apart!
