This may be UNC’s biggest non-conference game.

North Carolina will head to New York City, New York, to face the defending champions. UCONN had an impressive tournament run, similar to the Tar Heels in 2009. They blew out every opponent on their way to winning the championship, and most games never looked close. Will North Carolina be able to take down the Huskies?

Where and When?

This game will be at Madison Square Garden on December 5th, with tip-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. This game is part of the Jimmy V Classic.

Last Year in New York

Last season, the Tar Heels faced off against Ohio State at MSG. That one was for the CBS Sports Classic. UNC trailed for much of the game, but a full-court press changed the outcome. With just a few minutes left and North Carolina losing by double digits, they stormed back. After Ohio State scored a late bucket, Pete Nance would hit a turnaround jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. At that point, North Carolina had all of the momentum, took the lead, and never looked back.

What to Know

UCONN is still going to be very good. They lost their starting center, athletic wing, and best guard, but returned many key pieces to last year’s squad. They will be tough to beat, and they are now going to be very experienced in big games. Luckily, the Tar Heels have many veteran players who have been in big moments.

This game is going to be good!
