Mack Brown wasn’t happy with the NC State coach Dave Doeren.

After NC State defeated North Carolina in Raleigh a few weeks ago, Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren was caught on camera after the game referring to UNC’s players as “pieces of ****.” Since then, not much has been made of the comments. Today, North Carolina coach Mack Brown brought the issue up.

Sour Signing Day?

Unprompted, Brown brought up the comments Doeren made about the Tar Heels last month. Brown said he had never heard something like that and thought it was classless. “You don’t call kids a piece of ***,*, said Brown. Those comments have obviously irked the UNC coach. The question now is, why did it take so long to address the issue?

Doeren Responds

Always one to trash the Tar Heels, Doeren walked those comments back a bit today. Posted by @ice_chip on X (Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer), the Wolfpacks coach had this to say: “First of all, when we go to these meetings, we’re supposed to get noticed that there’s a camera in our locker room, and that was not done. I have a lot of regret that that was on TV, because it shouldn’t have been.” He also said, “That doesn’t give me an excuse to have that public, but that’s what happened, and no one told me. Obviously, if I knew I was on camera, my language would not have been what it was. Does it make it any better? No. I did call coach (Mack Brown) and apologize, because I could’ve used a lot of different words.”

It is very clear who takes the UNC-NC State game more seriously. Although Doeren apologized, the words used by the opposing coaches to describe each other’s program are very different.
