Another Waiver is Granted, Tez Walker Remains Ineligible

Tez Walker

Feels a bit personal, doesn’t it?

On Monday, Chris McDonald, who transferred to Minnesota, was granted immediate eligibility. You should be happy for him and the fact that he gets to play the game he loves. McDonald played for Iowa State during his freshman season before heading to Auburn and playing two games before going down with a season-ending injury. Now at his third stop, and also the third school he has played football for, he is able to play.

Makes No Sense

Meanwhile, Devontez Walker, who transferred to UNC after only playing at one other school, remains ineligible. After originally heading to NC Central for his first season, Walker never got to play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He then transferred to Kent State, where he played for two seasons and was a standout performer. Walker then made the move to North Carolina, where he would be closer to family. But his waiver was denied, and he is still unable to play.

It’s Personal

Player A: At his third school/Has played football for two programs/Not a grad transfer/Immediately eligible.

Player B: At his third school/Has played football for one program/Not a grad transfer/Waiver not granted.

It really does feel personal, does it not? How does the player who has only played football at one other school not become eligible, but the one who played at two does? Is it that the NCAA is still upset that they were beaten by North Carolina in the academic fraud case and were made to look foolish? No one knows. But what we do know is that they often make decisions that are not logical and tend to make things up as they go.

Chris McDonald deserves to play, and so does Tez Walker. Both have similar circumstances, but the NCAA made a decision to hurt one.
