UNC is one of two top 10 teams that didn’t lose this week.

It was a brutal week for the top 25 in college basketball this week. There were upsets everywhere, and of the top 10 teams, eight of them lost. The only two who survived were UConn and North Carolina. Those two have already played this year, with the Huskies coming out on top. Both currently look like title contenders.

What Happened?

Was it a fluke that all of these ranked teams lost, or is the college basketball landscape unsettled? It was likely a mix of the two. Here are the top 10 teams and how their week played out:

#1 Purdue- Loss to Nebraska | Win over Penn State

#2 Houston- Loss to Iowa State | Loss to TCU

#3 Kansas- Loss to UCF | Win over #9 Oklahoma

#4 UConn- Win over Xavier | Win over Georgetown

#5 Tennessee- Loss to Mississippi State | Win over Georgia

#6 Kentucky- Win over Missouri | Loss to Texas A&M

#7 North Carolina- Win over NC State | Win over Syracuse

#8 Arizona- Win over Utah | Loss to Washington State

#9 Oklahoma- Loss to TCU | Loss to #3 Kansas

#10 Illinois- Win over Michigan State | Loss to Maryland

Where Will UNC Be Ranked?

With those results, it looks like the Tar Heels are primed for a jump into the top five. Purdue and Kansas may not move much, but Houston’s two losses will knock them back, and UNC should jump them, Tennessee and Kentucky. Depending on how voters see the results of this week, North Carolina will likely see a ranking of #4 or better!

These wins have changed how the committee sees the Tar Heels.
