UNC has added a second member to its portal class.

After visiting North Carolina over a week ago, Vanderbilt transfer Ven-Allen Lubin has committed to the program. He is the second transfer to choose UNC this offseason, joining Cade Tyson.

Adding A Big

Lubin is a big pickup for North Carolina. At 6’8, he can play both power forward and small-ball center. He will also only be a junior next season, giving him an opportunity to play at least two seasons in Chapel Hill. With Jae’Lyn Withers having only one season of eligibility remaining, Lubin could provide roster continuity. To go along with that, he had a leap in production at Vanderbilt.

2022-2023 with Notre Dame: 17.4 minutes, 6.8 points, and 4.4 rebounds per game.

2023-2024 with Vanderbilt: 28.2 minutes, 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1 block per game.

Last season, Lubin made 50% of his shots. He attempted 39 threes, making 13 of them, good for 33.3%.

Ties to UNC

Before transferring to Vanderbilt last offseason, Lubin played at Notre Dame, where he was a teammate of Cormac Ryan. When he decided to leave for the Commodores, Lubin was coached by former Tar Heel Jerry Stackhouse.

New Faces

North Carolina has currently added two members through the transfer portal, as well as three high school recruits.

  • Ven-Allen Lubin- Transfer from Vanderbilt
  • Cade Tyson- Transfer from Belmont
  • Ian Jackson- 5-Star recruit
  • Drake Powell- 5-Star recruit
  • James Brown- 4-Star recruit

The Tar Heels still have two scholarships remaining.
