UNC usually plays a tough schedule.

With how important the NET rankings are and “quad” wins being all the rage, it is important to play a good schedule these days in college basketball. North Carolina has done just that, with their strength of schedule being ranked in the top 10. When March comes, these games will be important for seeding.

Top 10 SOS

UNC currently has the 8th toughest SOS in the nation, according to teamrankings.com. The only teams ahead of the Tar Heels are Arizona, Purdue, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Marquette, and Wisconsin. Five of those seven teams have at least three losses, just like North Carolina, and Arizona has two. UNC has done a good job early in the season, and games against Villanova, Arkansas, Tennessee, UConn, Kentucky, and Oklahoma should have the team prepared for conference play. Close losses to ‘Nova and Kentucky will not be bad looks either.

UNC currently sits at #26 in the NET. The metric is based on games played, where they’re played, and how much you win by. Unfortunately, it is flawed, as teams that have only played mid-majors and blown them out can get a jump in the standings.

Conference Play

There will be opportunities for big wins in the ACC this season. Last year the ACC was not good, but this year, Clemson, Duke, Miami, and Virginia could all end up being “quad 1” games. The middle of the ACC will be a mystery. Virginia Tech, NC State, Pitt, Wake Forest, and maybe even a few more will look to make the tournament.

UNC has a chance to be one of the best teams in the country throughout the year!
