UNC won its first game in the Battle 4 Atlantis!

North Carolina opened the Battle 4 Atlantis with a win over Northern Iowa. The first half was rough, with a lot of miscues and not enough intensity. The second half was the complete opposite. We got a glimpse of what this can be!

First Half Struggles

North Carolina had another bad first half. Early on, the teams got a bit scrappy. UNC couldn’t shoot, turned the ball over, and Northern Iowa was hot. The Panthers used a balanced scoring attack to stay ahead of the Tar Heels. R.J. Davis struggled, while Armando Bacot played 12 minutes, shooting the ball only three times. That’s a recipe for disaster.

Second Half Heat

The Tar Heels came out of halftime on fire. They looked inspired, and the intensity was turned all the way up. Davis, Ryan, and Harrison Ingram dominated the first 10 minutes, and the lead was pushed to 20. It didn’t take long for the first half to look like a fluke. In fact, with 12 minutes left, the Panthers had used all of their timeouts. Ball movement, communication, and defense were all much better. UNC pressured full court on defense, giving Northern Iowa fits.

Hot Heels

Harrison Ingram: 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists

R.J. Davis: 13 points, 4 assists.

Cormac Ryan: 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks

Jae’Lyn Withers: 11 points, 4 rebounds

Armando Bacot: 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks

Elliot Cadeau: 15 points, 3 assists

Final Score: UNC-91  Northern Iowa-69

UNC will face the winner of Villanova/Texas Tech tomorrow.
