UNC got it done in game one!
North Carolina opened its season with a win over the Radford Highlanders. After a very tight first half, the Tar Heels were able to get things going and stretch their lead to double digits. Radford returned three starters, including Bryan Antoine, a former 5-star who was at Villanova but transferred after injury issues.
First Half
Both teams started the game on fire. UNC made its first five three-point attempts. Radford got to the lane and hit step-back jumpers consistently. It seemed like they couldn’t miss for a while. North Carolina was playing solid defense; the Highlanders just made tough shots. The game remained close because of that and the fact that UNC turned the ball over so much.
Second Half
Although it remained close for a large portion of the second half, North Carolina used its size and ability to get to the line. The Tar Heels also took care of the ball this half, only turning it over three times. Once UNC got the lead to 10, they never looked back. The defense was much better, giving up only 29 points. Almost all night, the offense played well. They ran in transition, and it was fun to watch.
Final: UNC-86 Radford-70
Armando Bacot dominated, finishing with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Harrison Ingram and Jae’Lyn Withers both played well in their minutes. Cormac Ryan shot 3-7 from three and looked good on defense as well. Jalen Washington played big minutes off of the bench, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds in just 10 minutes played. Freshman Elliot Cadeau settled in and ended up with five points and six(!) assists in 19 minutes.
