UNC takes on undefeated Oklahoma tomorrow night.
North Carolina will meet the Oklahoma Sooners tomorrow night in Charlotte for the Jumpman Invitational. The Sooners remain undefeated and have had a very solid squad. However, they have only faced one ranked team, USC, who now sit at 5-5.
Oklahoma’s Balanced Attack
North Carolina and Oklahoma only have one common opponent: Arkansas. Both beat them, with UNC winning by 15 and OU winning by nine. The Sooners have eight players who average more than 7 points per game. Three of those average more than 10. Their guards, Javian McCollum and Otega Oweh, average 14.7 and 14.3. They also have a familiar face in John Hugley, who used to play for Pittsburgh. He has faced the Tar Heels once and beat them while scoring 18 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.
Battle Tested
Meanwhile, UNC has been heavily tested. Games against Tennessee, Villanova, UConn, and Kentucky should have the Tar Heels ready for this one. North Carolina could pick up another Q1 win and avoid a three-game losing streak. Four losses before conference play would be a rough look.
Last Meeting
These two teams have only faced off once before in 2009, when UNC knocked Oklahoma out of the NCAA tournament on their way to the national title. Ty Lawson scored 19 in this game to lead the Heels to victory.
Will the Tar Heels be able to use their experience against top talent to hand Oklahoma its first loss?
