UNC Loses Season Starting Cornerback to the Portal

This portal entry is a surprise.

North Carolina just lost cornerback Tayon Holloway to the transfer portal. This one is a bit of a shock, as he saw time for much of the year. When it was announced that DeAndre Boykins would be out for the year before the season opener, Holloway got his chance to start.

Another Virginia Loss

UNC’s VA2UNC campaign from a few years ago has lost any momentum it had. Holloway, George Pettaway, Tychaun Chapman, and Andre Green Jr. were all part of the group that had brought so much talent from Virginia. Now, all are in the transfer portal. That is four 4-stars from the state gone in less than a week.

Holloway Production

This season, Holloway had 19 tackles and a pass deflection. He had shown promise, especially being so young and being forced to match up with bigger outside receivers. Holloway is yet another promising young player who will head elsewhere. As a recruit, he was a 4-star, ranked 196th in the nation. Holloway has good height for a corner that will be able to compete with outside receivers.

North Carolina will have no choice but to hit the portal themselves to find replacements. Luckily, UNC isn’t the only school with a lot of transfers and should be able to find players.

Best of luck in the future, Tayon!
