UNC is happy to have him!

Former NC State safety Jakeen Harris has committed to North Carolina. When was the last time a player moved between these two teams? There have been commitment flips in recent years, but a transfer? That is rare. With how the portal works, this will likely be more common in the future, unless the NCAA updates the rules.

Big For UNC

North Carolina gets an experienced safety who has played big minutes for the Wolfpack. He was set to be a starter for the NC State defense this past season but got hurt in the first game. Now, UNC gains a good player in a position of need. Safeties were thin, and the two starters are graduating. Now, a former starter from one of the top defenses in the country joins the Tar Heels!

Stats with NC State

Here is how Harris performed in five seasons with the Wolfpack.

2019: 30 tackles.

2020: 76 tackles, 1 interception, 7 pass deflections.

2021: 38 tackles, 1 interception, 2 pass deflections.

2022: 20 tackles, 2 interceptions.

2023: 2 tackles, then went out with an injury.

As a Recruit

From Savannah, Georgia, Harris was listed as a 5’11, 183-pound safety. He was ranked the 1,420th best player in the 2018 class and the 120th best at his position. He had an offer from UNC but ultimately chose NC State.

Congrats, Jakeen, and welcome to the good side!
