A couple of Tar Heels were hurt in the opener.

There were injury reports both before and after North Carolina’s big win over South Carolina. Today, we will go over them and what they mean for the future.

Who Got Hurt?

Offensive Lineman Ed Montilus: Rolled up during the game, Montilus sprained his ankle and had to be replaced. He is day-by-day and will be looked at throughout the week. Montilus is a big piece for the offensive line. Although UNC does have a bit of depth here, he is someone that North Carolina needs to keep healthy. Luckily, it doesn’t sound too bad, and he should be back soon.

Announced Hurt Before the Game

Wide Receiver Nate McCollum: A transfer from Georgia Tech, McCollum was looked at as being one of Drake Maye’s best targets for the year. Seeing that he was out just before the game gave UNC fans some panic. He is listed as day-to-day as well and should be able to go soon. Maybe he will be worked back against App State, or they could wait until the Minnesota game the following week. His presence will be huge when he is able to go.

Star DeAndre Boykins: Right before kickoff, it was announced that Boykins was out for the year with a lower body injury. This is a huge blow for an already thin secondary. Boykins was set to be a big piece for this year’s team. This news will force younger guys to step up and be prepared.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for all involved!
