Another high for UNC.
The AP Poll was just released, and the Tar Heels are ranked as high as they’ve been all season, at #7. Continuing to rack up wins against tough competition has positioned North Carolina nicely. This week, they face NC State in Raleigh and Syracuse in Chapel Hill. Those are both opportunities for more quality wins.
New Ranking
North Carolina comes off its season-high ranking of #8, which they’ve been twice this season. After Marquette lost, who was #7, it allowed UNC to jump a spot. The Tar Heels big wins over Pittsburgh and Clemson on the road were both impressive. The team locked in on defense and won gritty, tough games. It was a complete team effort as well, with the bench coming in to provide valuable minutes in each. UNC is clicking at the right time.
Ahead of the Heels
Now, only six teams stand in front of the Tar Heels. They are: #1 Purdue, #2 Kansas, #3 Houston (only remaining undefeated team), #4 UConn, #5 Tennessee, and #6 Kentucky. UNC has played three of the six teams ahead of them, beating Tennessee and losing to UConn and Kentucky. North Carolina is tied for the most Quad 1 opponents in the nation, and that resume will surely have an impact come March.
How far will the Heels climb?
