That rumor was shut down quickly.
After 247Sports Brandon Marcello released an article about the coaching carousel and heard that Mack Brown may retire after the season, UNC football’s Jeremy Sharpe shut it down. He let it be known that Brown was here to stay!
Original Rumor
Marcello originally posted this in his article: “Chatter about his future is increasing among agents and coaches, particularly after an emotional Brown started tearing up following a 47-45 win against Duke in double overtime last week. The College Football Hall of Famer has led North Carolina to an 8-2 record following the nine-win season a year ago.” Word spread quickly, and many were not surprised due to Brown’s age.
Rumor Shut Down
Sharpe was asked by TarHeelIllustrated about what was spreading around, to which he responded, ““It’s that time of year, so someone is going to start this rumor in the hopes of affecting our team and/or recruiting like they’ve done the past two years. Mack is full steam ahead. In fact, he already has spring practice planned and is currently setting up recruiting visits for December, so no, he’s not retiring.” Brown is 72 years old, so these rumors are always going to spread. This has been the case for years now. However, someone in the program coming out and saying no, it’s not true, is big. This rumor started and ended quickly. It sounds like Brown still has a lot to do before he wants to be done with football.
This is huge news for the program!
