UNC has certainly had a bad day.

Along with the news that UNC wide receiver Devontez Walker was ruled ineligible came a sad injury report. North Carolina cornerback Lejond Cavazos will likely miss the full season with a lower-body injury. Last year, in his first full season for the Tar Heels, Cavazos played as a backup cornerback. He did, however, start the final three games of the season. Cavazos was looking at likely the same role this season if he was healthy. He was a nice depth piece that the Tar Heels were looking to develop.

Recruiting Profile

Cavazos was a 4-star recruit who played high school ball at IMG Academy in Florida. He was ranked 353rd in the nation and committed to Ohio State. After two seasons with the Buckeyes, Cavazos transferred to UNC. He is good friends with Armando Bacot, who also attended IMG.

Outlook

North Carolina is already thin at cornerback. With the Cavazos news, they may have to rotate players who were never supposed to play this coming season. It will put a responsibility on some of the younger guys to be ready and show their ability if their number is called. The defensive coaches will have their hands full finding who should be on the field and how to play their depth.

Hopefully, Cavazos can heal up and be a part of next year’s rotation!
