UNC loses a member of its secondary.

Lejond Cavazos

This will be his second transfer.

North Carolina just lost another member of its secondary. Lejond Cavazos has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. He was a 4-star recruit out of IMG Academy in Florida and was expected to be a major player in college. Injuries have hampered those expectations.

College Journey

Cavazos committed to and played at Ohio State after high school. He played one season with the Buckeyes, tallying eight tackles and two pass deflections.

Following that, Cavazos would transfer to North Carolina. Although he was in Chapel Hill for two seasons, he only played one, as during 2022-2023, there was a meniscus injury that forced him out. During his playing time at UNC, Cavazos totaled 18 tackles and two pass deflections. Had he been healthy, valuable time on the field would have been likely last season. The Tar Heels were forced to play a lot of young guys.

The Next Step

Now, Cavazos has a chance to go elsewhere in search of playing time. He is clearly talented, and if injuries subside, Cavazos could carve out a role for himself. Due to his high profile out of high school and not seeing much playing time, many schools may look to take a chance on him.

Hopefully, wherever he lands is the best spot for him, minutes will be available, and there are no more injuries.
