Another Tar Heel commit receives high praise for his performance during AAU season!

The biggest AAU tournament of the year was held last week. Peach Jam, a part of the Nike EYBL circuit, was played, and UNC commit Drake Powell was named First Team All-Peach Jam! Powell has been one of the fastest risers in the 2024 class. We have recapped his ascent, but being named to the First Team of this tournament with so many other top players is quite the feat.

Rising Quick

Powell is currently ranked as the 14th-best player in 2024 by 247Sports. The Tar Heel wing commit is from Pittsboro, North Carolina, and grew up a UNC fan. In January, he was ranked 51st before his rapid rise in the rankings. The way Powell has improved his game is very impressive. When he committed to North Carolina, Powell was seen as a defender that would take years to develop. Now, he has majorly improved his jumper and is a threat all over the court. He gets to his spots, can drive the ball, and his improved jumper has made him extremely tough to stop.

Peach Jam Stats

Powell averaged 16.6 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.6 assists at Peach Jam. He had a game where he scored 18 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. In another game he had 20 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. Powell also shot 50% from three.

To say Powell has become elite is an understatement. He continues to improve and may end up ranked in the top 10 before arriving in Chapel Hill.
