Armando Bacot may have just hinted at some potentially big UNC basketball news on Saturday night. What could it be?
There’s been a lot of UNC basketball news this offseason thus far. Obviously, the offseason began a little earlier than Tar Heel fans would have hoped with the NCAA Tournament passing up on the nation’s preseason No. 1 team and then UNC declining an NIT invite. But that hasn’t stopped the news from flowing in.
Six Tar Heels have entered the transfer portal following the 2022-23 season, headlined by star guard Caleb Love who had an up-and-down career. He made the decision to transfer to Michigan.
Leaky Black and Pete Nance are also gone which means that the Tar Heels have been focused heavily on the transfer portal for next season. They’ve already added Brown transfer Jaxson Wojcik who began his career at Loyola Chicago. He should be a major piece to the puzzle in 2023-24, assuming he’s granted a transfer waiver.
According to Armando Bacot, however, the Tar Heels could be getting some good news in the near future, presumably regarding the transfer portal.
He posted this cryptic tweet on Saturday night:
For anyone who follows recruiting, when players say “stay tuned” that usually means good news is coming. The UNC basketball boards have been going crazy with speculation already, but no one has any idea who it could be or when it might happen.
The Tar Heels did recently reach out to Harrison Ingram from Stanford who could be a really solid addition or there’s even Hunter Dickinson who has played with Bacot in the past. Either one of those guys would be a huge pickup and Hubert Davis would have a jumpstart on reloading the roster.
Could it be someone else who hasn’t been talked about? Of course, but one thing is for certain: there will be some intriguing news in the near future for UNC.
What could it be?
