The Auburn commit showed up to the Tar Heels home opener.

Auburn commit Tahaad Pettiford was on campus for North Carolina’s opener against App State. The top-30 player is one of the best point guards in the 2024 class. He is good friends with UNC freshman Elliot Cadeau, so this could be nothing, but it is not common for someone committed elsewhere to be at another school’s football game.

Recruiting Profile

Pettiford is a 4-star point guard from Jersey City, New Jersey. He is 6’1, 170-pounds, and is the second-ranked point guard in the 2024 class and the number 25 player overall. Pettiford is a smooth guard who can make plays and shoots the ball well. He has impressed in multiple camps and often shows his ability to dominate against other elite prospects. He does not yet have an offer from North Carolina but does have them from Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, and others.

Does it Mean Anything?

It was not announced as an official or unofficial visit, so it could mean nothing. It could just be that he was tagging along with his friend. Armando Bacot tweeted in response to the photo that surfaced, saying he was just there with a friend. But Bacot has also said in the past to not visit UNC or you will commit. With Elliot Cadeau reclassifying to this year’s team, there could be an open spot at point guard for the 2024 class.

Again, it could mean nothing, but having him on campus at least gives him a look at the school should he receive an offer.
