The ACC may be about to begin its breakup.

As has been the case often over the last few years, realignment talk among the NCAA conferences is heating back up. This time, it is an ACC member leaving, and they may not be the only one. An article this morning posted information about what is next and who is planning a move.

Who Is Likely Leaving?

The Clemson Tigers are preparing for a big move out of the ACC. The article mentioned that although the Big Ten is a possibility, the higher ups at the school want to go to the SEC.

UNC Named

The article talked about how the process would happen. It said the Big Ten would want to get the top prize not named Notre Dame; North Carolina. However, it stated that the SEC would counter by also trying to pull in the Tar Heels.

Why it Makes Sense

Obviously, the realignment talk has to do with money. If you are not in the SEC or Big Ten, you are getting left behind. The ACC has done a poor job of preparing itself for the future, and the schools it brought in do not add much. North Carolina is not only one of the most recognizable college brands in the country, but worldwide. There are fans everywhere, and it is hard to miss. The basketball program is one of, if not the greatest, of all time. The football school has been considered a sleeping giant for a long time. Women’s soccer is undoubtedly the greatest, baseball is usually good, and the Olympic sports have all won national titles. UNC has so much going for it, and it will be a fight for the Big Ten and SEC to reel in the Tar Heels.

It is going to be a wild few years for many conferences!
