The atmosphere was electric for the Miami game!
In what would have been a top-20 matchup had Miami just taken a knee against Georgia Tech, North Carolina played host to the Hurricanes. There had been much talk about if the Tar Heels were legit heading into this game. It looks like to most, they are.
Pre-Game
With the ‘late night’ basketball event happening on Friday, students and fans were already hyped for the weekend. After Friday night, the electricity on campus carried over into Saturday. Fans were in their seats and were treated to a new light show before kickoff. The atmosphere was great, and you could tell the hype for this game had built to its breaking point.
Gametime
When the game started, the stadium was loud, and most people were standing. Each play elicited a reaction, and it was the most engaged the crowd has been in some time. After a frustrating first half where Miami had the lead, North Carolina was on fire to start the second. The Tar Heels scored 24 straight points to gain a commanding lead. Whether it was Omarion Hampton ripping a long run or Tez Walker catching passes, the crowd was as good as it has been since 2019. The defense made plays, intercepting two passes and getting two fumbles. Kaimon Rucker was held all night, and it went uncalled. However, he continued to make plays and get to Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Although Miami gave the Tar Heels a little scare late (so many fans left with 8 minutes left for some reason), UNC stayed in control and won 41-31.
Post-Game
There was a sense of relief and happiness that UNC’s biggest test thus far was won convincingly. Now at 6-0, North Carolina controls its destiny. They have the easiest stretch of their schedule coming up over the next three games: Virginia, at Georgia Tech, and Campbell.
This team feels different, and it is an exciting time to be a Tar Heel fan!
