UNC dominated a solid Syracuse team!
North Carolina entered their game on Saturday with a 4-0 record, its best since 1997. Sometimes, after starting off that well, and especially after a bye week, a letdown game ensues. Not this year. The Tar Heels dominated the game from start to finish.
Pre-Game
On a beautiful fall day, Chapel Hill was buzzing. Tar Heel fans were everywhere, with a few Syracuse faithful sprinkled in. This was a big game against a good Syracuse team, and the fans did a good job of showing out. On the video board before the game, newly eligible Tez Walker was shown multiple times, getting a loud cheer. The fans did a good job of filling up the stands before kickoff.
Gametime
Any nervous energy from before the game was gone after the first quarter. North Carolina took a little while to get going on offense, but the defense stifled the Syracuse offense. North Carolina didn’t let the Orange hang around, pushing the lead to 27-0 entering halftime. When play resumed, Syracuse scored their only touchdown of the day. It seemed as if the UNC defense was flying around the field, stopping any momentum the Orange had. The offense cruised in the second half, scoring one touchdown and kicking two field goals. Many of the backups and freshmen got to play late in the fourth quarter.
Post-Game
Many of the fans unfortunately left with five minutes left in the game, missing any celebration afterward and watching a great performance come to an end. However, you could tell that next week’s matchup against Miami has fans ready for another Saturday. The Hurricanes lost in a terrible way against Georgia Tech, but this is sure to be one of the most anticipated games in UNC football history.
UNC will look to be 6-0 after a tough matchup with Miami next Saturday night.
