Trimble has reversed course.
On April 9th, North Carolina guard Seth Trimble entered the transfer portal. He had seen a minutes boost after his freshman season, and was showing a lot of progress in his game. During his time, he was a much improved shooter whose defense was vital. Today, on Trimble’s Instagram, he announced that he will return to Chapel Hill.
Changing Course
It isn’t often that a player enters the transfer portal and then decides to return to the school. Trimble was a legacy recruit, as his brother J.P. Tokoto played with the Tar Heels from 2012 to 2015.
Trimble has extremely high upside. His athleticism and defense are valuable, which often led to being matched up to the opponents best guard. On top of that, there was an increase in offensive production, including a much better-looking three. Although the volume isn’t high, the percentage jumped nearly 30%.
Improving Production
Freshman Season Stats: 9.7 minutes, 1.8 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists. Shot 45.5 % and 16.7% from three.
Sophomore Season Stats: 17.1 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. Shot 47% and 41.9% from three.
Now that Trimble is back, the Tar Heels have 8 scholarship players. There is not much room for a guard anymore, but a big wing and a center are major needs right now.
This is a more than welcome return to the team, and a junior season jump is in store!
