Saying Goodbye to Caleb Love

After a wild offseason, Caleb Love has committed to Arizona.

A Crazy Offseason

Former North Carolina guard, Caleb Love, has chosen his next destination. After deciding to transfer, Love initially picked Michigan as his landing spot. That was, until an issue with transfer credits came about which did not allow him into the school. With him not being granted entry, Love re-opened his recruitment. There was speculation that he had a top three of Arizona, Gonzaga and Texas. Then, on May 30th, Love chose the Wildcats.

Reminiscing

Love, a former 5-Star prospect in the 2020 class, was one of the more polarizing figures the Tar Heels have ever had. Through three years, Love averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He delivered some of the most memorable moments in recent history. Although inconsistent at times, Love was never scared and was always willing to shoot in big moments.

In the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Love played hero. Starting things off with a 23 point outing against Marquette, Love was clearly ready to go. After struggling against Baylor, Love saved the day in the Sweet 16. Pouring in 30 points against UCLA and making shot after shot late, Love sealed it. Then, two games later in the Final 4, in one of the most hyped in college basketball history and the biggest in the rivalry, Caleb Love downed Duke. He scored 28 points in this game, playing with pure heart and a will to win. In what is one of the biggest games in NCAA History, with just over 25 seconds left, Love drained a three over the outstretched arm of the Blue Devils Mark Williams. That shot will live on forever, and is easily one of the greatest shots in North Carolina history.

No matter your opinion on Love, you can not question his want to win, his confidence in himself and how much he cared for his teammates. When there was a scrum, he was always there to stick up for his guys.

After a memorable career, I wish Caleb Love nothing but the best and am excited to see where he takes things.
