Howell looked great last night!

After being named the Washington Commanders starter earlier this week, Howell gave everyone a reason as to why that is. Facing off against the Baltimore Ravens, who had won 24 straight preseason games, Howell and the Commanders offense made moving the ball look easy. He even found a former North Carolina connection for a touchdown!

Stats

Last night, Howell was very accurate. Completing 76% of his passes, he went 19/25 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. That was only in one half of football. He has multiple weapons, such as Terry McLaurin, Kazmeir Allen, and Dyami Brown, but his favorite seems to be fellow second-year Commander, Jahan Dotson. The duo connected for five receptions and 76 yards.

UNC Connection

One of Howell’s favorite targets from his days at North Carolina, Dyami Brown, also plays for the Commanders. Brown was targeted multiple times and caught two passes for 27 yards and a touchdown. The Howell-Brown duo was elite in college, and had many memorable moments. Two of the best were Brown burning defenders from both Clemson and Miami for long touchdowns. Hopefully, these two can provide plenty of those in their pro careers.

Howell certainly looked the part of a starter last night. Making good reads and hitting tight windows to extend drives. Even when pressured, Howell was able to escape multiple times and make plays with his feet. This will be a huge year for a Commanders team that may have found their quarterback of the future.
