Davis has been awesome this year!
North Carolina is 7-2 and guard RJ Davis can’t stop scoring. His shooting and ability to get to the rim have made him nearly unstoppable. Pair that with the fact that he’s playing off the ball more, and it is a recipe for success.
Hot Start
Through nine games, Davis is averaging 21 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. The scoring is what stands out though. He has had his best games against the toughest competition.
Villanova: 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists.
Arkansas: 30 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists.
Tennessee: 27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists.
Florida State: 27 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists.
UConn: 26 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist.
Scoring from Everywhere
Four of those five teams were ranked when North Carolina played them. In those games, he has gotten to the line, shooting at least six free throws in each. At the line, Davis rarely misses. He is shooting 95% from the line this year. Davis has been a spark and is a huge reason for the Tar Heels early success.
With Elliot Cadeau often bringing the ball up the court, UNC has been able to run plays to get Davis open. We know how dangerous he is on the ball, but when he is able to run around screens and plays are designed for him, it makes him nearly impossible to guard. Multiple times this season, Davis has caught the ball on the wing, pump-faked, and been able to drive and create.
If he keeps this up, Davis will likely be an All-American.
