Davis has been unstoppable this season.
North Carolina guard RJ Davis has easily been one of the best players in the country this season. He is showing up in every game, no matter who the opponent is. Davis must’ve seen that he wasn’t named preseason first-or second-team All-ACC. Last night, he did something never done before at UNC.
A First At UNC
Against Charleston Southern, Davis tallied 20 points, 10 assists, AND 5 steals in a single game. He is the first player at North Carolina to reach those numbers in one game. Davis was fantastic and set the tone for the game with eight early points. He was locked in on defense, jumping passing lanes to get steals. Davis has become a great scorer when driving the ball and made multiple acrobatic layups last night. It is the perfect complement to his already stout perimeter shooting. What makes the performance last night even more special is that it was efficient. He shot 50% from three and 53.8% on the game.
All-American Season
Through 12 games, Davis is averaging 21.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. His 21.6 PPG is good for eighth in the country. In nine of the teams 12 games, Davis has scored 20 points or more. In every “big game” against the best teams UNC has played, he is doing more and impacting the game.
Davis is on fire, and North Carolina will need him to be as ACC play gets rolling.
